Howdy CSA members! Have you seen the leaves changing in town? Fall is here! And so are our Fall festivities at Rocky Creek Farm, starting this Friday, September 27th! The Fall Festival at Rocky Creek has been a Bozeman tradition for over 30 years! Every weekend from late September through Halloween, our farm is packed with festivities: Hay rides to the pumpkin patch, apple picking, cider pressing, and more. Our farm stand will be stocked with seasonal produce, carving pumpkins, decorative gourds, dried flowers and ornamental grasses, apple cider, and more. If you have visited RCF for previous Fall festivities you may recall our reservation system. For those that are new, if you would like to spend time at the Farm, see the animals, take a walk or a hay wagon ride to the apple orchard to pick your pumpkin, take pictures, have lunch or a snack at one of our picnic tables, and enjoy a fall day on the farm, then please make a reservation through our website. Please make one free reservation for each vehicle you bring. This helps us manage the parking on the farm. Fall Festival Hours starting September 27th through the end of October: Fridays 3pm to 5pm, Saturdays 9am to 5pm, Sundays 10am to 4pm. Aside from launching into Fall festivities, we are wrapping up our field harvests as we anticipate more freezing nights like this Monday’s. We are building our dried flower inventory as well as our cold storage of root vegetables. Lastly, we are getting in multiple pumpkin deliveries each month from our pumpkins that were planted out in Three Forks and anticipate building our pumpkin patch in the orchard this week!
CSA boxes this week debut some regulars you have been seeing over the last month as well as romanesco! Romanesco tastes like a milder, sweeter, and nuttier version of cauliflower with a subtle broccoli flavor and a dense, tender texture. Its nutty, earthy flavor is enhanced when cooked, particularly when roasted, and can even develop a slight sweetness that balances spicy dishes. It is less bitter than regular broccoli. Check out the recipe below for parmesan roasted romensco and stir fry romanesco. Additionally, the last day of Summer CSA and market-style Whole Farm CSA is Tuesday, September 30th. Whole Farm CSA will shift to pre-packaged CSA boxes available on your usual pick up day in the RCF Cold Room.
