Howdy CSA members! It feels like fall with these rainy days to start off the week and the colors slowly changing around town. Just a reminder that there are 4 more weeks of Summer CSA including this week. If you have enjoyed your Summer CSA produce, don’t hesitate to sign up for Winter CSA! Whole Farm CSA will go on sale in February 2026. While CSA pickup at Rocky Creek Farm will continue to be on Tuesdays and Saturdays through October 7th, the Rocky Creek market stand will be open Tuesdays through Sundays starting with the launch of Fall Fest on Friday, September 26th! Stay tuned for information regarding our reservation system and activities available.
CSA boxes this week have some fun new produce such as Round of Hungary peppers and melons! The Round of Hungary pepper, also called the Hungary Pimento or Pimento Cheese pepper, is a sweet, thick-fleshed, and ribbed, globe-shaped pepper that resembles a small, flattened pumpkin. It is highly versatile, ideal for stuffing, salads, dips, and fresh eating due to its delicious, sweet, and meaty flavor. Paprika can be made from dehydrated and ground round of hungary peppers! Many uses for hungary peppers include freezing, pickling, roasting, dehydrating, and stuffing. Check out the recipe below for Hungarian Pepper-Tomato Stew or enjoy the peppers incorporated fresh into salads and sandwiches. You will also enjoy cantaloupe melon this week! Cantaloupes are sweet, refreshing melons that can be eaten on their own, added to smoothies and fruit salads, grilled, or paired with charcuterie meats and fresh vegetables. Check out the link below for 18 ways to use cantaloupe. Lastly, don’t forget, if you have been loving the heirloom tomatoes in your recent CSA boxes, you can order No. 1 and No. 2 tomatoes by the flat! Each flat is 20lbs; No.1 tomatoes totaling $75 a flat and No. 2 totaling $40 a flat. You can indicate your order on the CSA member check off sheet, let us know if person, or send an email.
