Hello all!

My name is Karlee and I am the new farm stand manager! I am eager to be acquainted with you as you stop in and look forward to this upcoming season, sharing our updates and farm shenanigans through our weekly newsletter.

We are navigating the rainy weather this week at the farm and shifting our focus from transplanting in the fields to seeding in the greenhouses. We were able to leverage the beautiful weather on Monday to transplant a handful of floral varieties including sunflowers, gladiolas, and irises as well as potatoes on our veggie side! While we wait for the weather to turn, we are seeding a variety of squash and lettuce, repotting parsley and basil, and hardening off plants to be transplanted soon. As seasons shift, we anticipate and welcome changes throughout the farm that indicate summer is around the corner! Our farmstead is becoming more lively each week as we harvest new produce and we are prepping hives to home new bees arriving to the farm this Saturday!

In your CSA box this week, you will find lovage and rhubarb. Lovage, also known as Mountain Celery, is a versatile herb that has a strong celery-like taste with hints of parsley and anise. Lovage is a great addition to soups and stews, especially those with a vegetable or meaty base, or finely chopped and added to salads for an herbaceous note. Rhubarb is a classic addition to pastries and baked goods for a sweet and tart flavor; however, rhubarb can also compliment meat such as roast pork, lamb, and venison, adding a sharpness to the flavor palette.
